Showcasing artisan globemakers Lander & May, of the Isle of Wight

Chris Adams, of Lander & May, has been handcrafting globes of distinction for over two decades and the time-honoured techniques he uses has been recognised as an endangered craft on The Red List of Heritage Crafts; a national charity set up to celebrate, support and safeguard traditional craft skills.

All Lander & May globes begin with beautifully detailed cartography, designed by Chris to UN standards and featuring over 4,000 place names.

Traditional globemaking is an unhurried process, where time is an essential part of the craft.

Each piece of art is unique. From the plaster ball, to the hand-laid cartography, to the 360 degree ‘free-motion’ hardwood base the globe rests on, this is an item that has been made entirely by human hands.
